Gas Cap Warning Light

The Bulb Check: Gas Cap Warning Light

The check gas cap light indicates that the gas cap is not tightened properly or the gas cap seal and or vent has failed. If not addressed, quite often the Check Engine Light will also illuminate.

This is actually a simple issue just because it is common that not everyone always remembers to tighten their gas cap all the way. NOTE: If this light does come on or your vehicle doesn't have this indicator but your check engine light comes on and the code is telling you that your "Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor" is reading low pressure or the sensor is bad. Do not let a garage try and sell you a new Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor at cost of parts and labor of around $400. Make sure the gas cap is on correctly or if not sure, buy a new cap as it is far cheaper than $400.

What to Do: Gas Cap Warning Light

Ensure that the gas cap is tightened correctly. If the cap is tightened correctly and you are still not sure, buy a new gas cap.
